Should I camp at EDC?

Camping at EDC is a completely different experience from staying on the strip. In this post we’re going to break down the entire process of camping at EDC, from buying tickets to checking out. We’ll also cover the pros and cons of camping as well as what to bring, and what to expect. Hopefully by the end of this article you’ll have a better idea of whether you want to try camping at EDC Las Vegas!

EDC Camping Pros

Easy access – it takes about 5-10 minutes to walk from the camp to the festival, and 10 minutes to get through security.

Easy pregaming – no need to get loaded and then rush to catch a 1-2 hour bus ride to the festival. Party with your friends, enjoy the campgrounds, and head over to the fest at your leisure!

After party – Stay til the very end – no need to leave early to beat the rush. Once the festival’s over, meander over to your campground, freshen up, reload, and keep the party going until 10 AM!

EDC Camping Cons

Light sleepers beware – Depending where your tent is located, the after party can be somewhat loud. Afterparties at the campgrounds go until 10 AM the next day. If you’re a very light sleeper or don’t do well with earplugs, you’ll want to avoid camping.

Price – EDC camping isn’t as cheap as camping at other festivals. The cheapest option is 1099 plus taxes and fees (200 lodging tax and 172 service fee – comes out to just under 1500) for a 4 person tent. EDC camping tickets do NOT include festival passes. So you’re looking at roughly 375 for lodging plus the cost of your EDC ticket. You can definitely find cheaper options than this on the strip.

Lengthy check in – Depending on when you arrive, checking in at EDC can be a notoriously long process. If your group has multiple tents and want to stay next to each other, you’ll need to check in together.

Roughing it – Camping at EDC is far nicer than camping at other festivals. The shift pod tents they provide include air conditioning, and the bathroom trailers all include flush toilets and heated showers. However, it’s definitely not going to be as nice as a suite at the Wynn!

Won’t spend much time on the strip – for those that choose camping, this is usually a pro, not a con. Some people prefer taking a break from EDC, eating at some buffets, maybe going to a pool party. If you’re camping, you won’t experience that side Vegas.

What are the different EDC camping options?

Moon Glow Shiftpod Camping (1-4 people)

This option allows you to have up to 4 people in your tent. It will come with 4 wrist bands that allow access to the tent for up to 4 people, but you don’t have to use all 4.

All the EDC tents are shift pods made by Advanced Shelter Systems – 12 ft across and 6.6 ft tall. There’s a zipper door and screen on the back and the front. You’ll want to bring luggage locks to secure the door – we recommend combination locks so that you won’t risk losing a key and everyone can get in.

The tent walls are semi-insulated but don’t completely block the sunlight. They do provide some sound reduction, but we’d highly recommend bringing both earplugs and eye masks. All tents have a solid astroturf floor which is actually quite comfortable. No mattresses are provided with the Moon Glow package. You can bring air mattresses, or you can just bring a sleeping bag and sleep directly on the astroturf.

Each tent also comes with an air conditioning unit that has no problem keeping the tent nice and cool. There is also a power strip in the tent but the camp runs on generators so there’s not a ton of spare voltage. If you trip the circuit breakers on your tent multiple times you can get your power cut off. Avoid hair dryers, etc.

This package is roughly 1500, so if you have 4 people it ends up around 375 per person.

Desert Rose Shiftpod Camping

This package is for 1-2 people. It comes with the same tent as the Moon Glow package, but with bed(s), linens, and pillows. You can either get a single queen bed or two twin beds. Both of these packages will run you 1399 plus taxes and fees, which ends up just over 1800, so you’re looking at 900 per person for this package.

RV Camping

Drive your own RV on-site! EDC offers a designated plot and options for power hookups, RV water refills, and pump-outs. You can have up to 8 people come in your RV. Power add ons and additional vehicle parking are purchased separately. Water and pump out package vouchers will be available for purchase on-site at the camp EDC store. RV camping tickets are around 560, power add ons are 550-800, but you can split it amongst more people. Of course you’ll have to factor in the cost of renting the RV and paying for gas, as well as the inconvenience of driving to Vegas. There are also some restrictions / requirements for RVs:

• RVs must qualify as an appropriate vehicle type: a Class A, B, or C RV/trailer, truck camper, or fifth wheel with a separate on-board generator.
• You may not exceed the total permitted length of 45 feet, including tow vehicle if applicable. Tow vehicles must remain attached to pull-trailer at all times.
• RV must have a working air conditioner powered by a built-in, non-engine-driven generator. Please keep in mind that external gas generators are not permitted in the campground.
• RV must be equipped with a power cable totaling 75 feet in length, if you purchased power. A TT-30P connector is required for 30-amp cables, while 50-amp cables will require a 14-50P connector. Power cords will not be available in the campground. If you do not bring the proper power cord, you risk not being able to plug into our power grid. Refunds for unused power purchases will not be granted.
• Staking anything into the ground is not permitted, so please plan accordingly.
• Once you park you can’t move it until 9 AM on the Monday after the festival.

What should I bring if I’m camping at EDC?

The first thing you’ll want to check when compiling your EDC packing list is the official prohibited items list. For the most part it stays the same, but there may be a few items added every year. Of course it’s impossible to search your belongings super closely and some security guards are also a bit more lax. Your mileage may vary – if you’re lucky some items may slip through undetected. Some items that stand out on the list that may surprise you:

• No liquor above 32 proof (16% ABV) – no tequila, vodka, whiskey, etc!
• No spray cans of any kind
• No medication not in the original container
• No large speaker systems – only portable speakers allowed
• No loose cans that are not in a sealed box – the max is 24 12 ounce cans
• No glass bottles
• No LED gloves or microlights for light shows
• No marijuana
• No drugs of any kind
• No glass mirrors

Here are the essential items to bring to Camp EDC:

How is the check-in process at EDC camping?

The check in process has historically been the most annoying part about camping at EDC. Depending on when you arrive, expect to wait anywhere from 30 minutes to 2 hours to check in. Ideally you would have all your gear in rolling luggages as you’re going to have move your stuff as the line moves. You’ll want to have some sunscreen and water readily available too.

In order to get adjacent tents with your friends, you’ll need to check in together. Anyone can check in for you as long as they have your pass and your confirmation email. Only one person needs to check into get the tent, the rest can check in and get the wrist bands separately with the confirmation email.

Each Moon Glow tent comes with 4 wristbands – if you don’t have 4 people, you can bring a guest into the campground. The Desert Rose tents only come with 2.

How is the security at Camp EDC?

After you pass the check in, you’ll reach security. Your mileage may vary here – some guards tend to be more strict and some are more lax. You can try to do a quick glance to see which lanes seem to be moving faster, but ultimately it’s all the luck of the draw. In general we would just recommend trying to follow the rules as closely as you can. Don’t complain or act sketchy about having to take out / unpack things, don’t have obvious paraphernalia out, etc. If you do get caught with something, just be respectful. Always de-escalate – no reason to ruin your weekend!

There are also security walking around the campsites. They usually won’t bother you unless you’re being too loud after hours or are causing a commotion.

You will also have to go through a security check point when you enter the festival from the campground. This will involve a bag check, metal detector, and pat down. There’s a more restrictive list of items that you can’t bring into the festival (but you’re allowed to have in the campground) so make sure you’re aware of what’s allowed. Additionally, you will be searched when LEAVING EDC and returning to the campgrounds!

How are the bathrooms and showers at EDC camping?

The shower and bathroom situation is better than most festival camping setups. They come in enclosed shipping container sized trailers, and contain flush toilets and heated showers. There is also an abundance of showers so you’ll never have to wait that long – the longest we’ve waited was roughly 10 minutes. They also seem to be pretty well maintained and regularly cleaned by staff. Some of the showers don’t have a changing area – others have two sections – a changing area and the shower area.

Each group of shower/toilet trailers also has sinks and mirrors outside the bathrooms for you to brush your teeth. There was never any issues with the hot water running out.

Overall, the shower / bathroom situation at EDC is as good as you’re gonna get. It’s no 5 star hotel or a suite at the Encore, but it’s better than the vast majority of camping bathroom situations.

What do I do for Food at Camp EDC?

The food here is generally better than what you’d expect to find at a festival. Food stalls are run by local restaurants and serve things like tacos, pizza, hot dogs, fries, chicken tenders, hamburgers, etc. Vegetarian/vegan options are available as well as some “healthier” food options. There’s number of food trucks that serve more unique, upscale fare. There’s also a farmers market and a general store. Prices are pretty typical for festivals – expect to spend about $15-20 for a meal.

Some of the food stalls were open late at night / early morning when the festival lets out, so if you’re hungry after a long night of dancing you will have some options.

You can still cook at EDC! Small portable, propane stoves and/or grills are allowed on camp grounds. As long as you’re monitoring the cooking devices, EDC has no problem with bringing food from home to cook and eat. But keep in mind that some kitchen utensils such as knives can be considered a weapon and will not pass through security.

Bringing your own food will definitely make your stay a bit cheaper! EDC food is delicious, but it can be $$$. No matter your choice, at least you won’t be dealing with this:

Beer and wine are available for purchase.

The general store doesn’t really sell too much food – they do sell some snacks but mostly sell toiletries, merch, and other miscellaneous items. Ice is available for purchase.

There is also a free shuttle to a nearby grocery store if you’re interested in that option. However this shuttle doesn’t seem to be that reliable. You can always use rideshare as a backup.

What Other Activities are There at Camp EDC?

The centerpiece for camp EDC’s activities is the Bamboo stage, which is right next to the pool. This is where the kick off party, pool parties/day parties, and after parties take place. The weekend begins with the official camp kickoff party on Thursday night. Every night there will be DJs spinning at the after party, including Monday morning until 10 AM. Every morning at 6 AM as the campers return from EDC festival, the after party announcements are made. The crowd at the afterparties are always still bumping even on Monday morning!

On Friday, Sat, and Sun afternoon there’s a pool party. Multiple waist high pools are available with lifeguards on duty for safety.

The Mesa is an entertainment hub in the middle of Camp EDC. Every and all activities are available here when you’re not jamming out at a concert. They have a roller rink, pools and water slides, a market, food vendors, merch tables, massage stations, a salon, and more!

These activities and more are organized primarily at the three main hubs in the Mesa. The Cascada, a giant, blue shade structure (shown below) is specified for wellness workshops and “transformational” activities. 

The Sol, like the Cascada but in yellow, orange, and red, is home to activities such as yoga, arts and crafts, sound healing, and rave aerobics- like hoop dancing! 

The last of the hubs is the Tierra. Some of the more “glamping” activities take place under this green structure, such as haircut stops, massages with oils, and as the official EDC Vegas website puts it, “a few more surprises!“

Around the Mesa there is always something going on. Limbo competitions, water balloon fights, team sports, karaoke, Bingo, DJ mixing/sample workshops, dance classes, live entertainment, and more. You’ll certainly never be bored!

Other activities include dance classes, field games, intramural sports, karaoke, rave aerobics, roller disco, a ferris wheel, yoga, guided meditation, massages, as well as art installations (including an art car) throughout the camp.

There’s also a juice and tea center, and a chill out area with hammocks. At the center of the camp is a giant EDC globe in the middle of a water fountain.

EDC Camping Pro Tips

• Arrive in Vegas early on Thursday if you can to catch the first day’s kick off parties! The earlier you arrive the quicker your check in process will be.
• There are two separate lines for check in and security. We recommend checking in without any of your stuff first, then going back to your car and getting your luggage, skipping the first line and going straight into the security line. This is much easier than dragging your luggage through the gravel field that’s used for the check in line.
• Take power naps and check in on each party – especially those that say special guest. Insomniac often brings big name DJs in for the parties at the camp – download the EDC app and enable push notifications to get the deets!
• Bring a totem or flag or some sort of decoration so you can easily identify your tent – super helpful when you’re stumbling back from the festival tired and ready to pass out. Take a picture of your campsite number.
• Get at least 4-5 hours of sleep a night – it’s a marathon not a sprint! If you’re planning on doing daytime activities at the camp plus the festival at night you can burn out fast.
• Stay hydrated – this is super important in the desert heat! We recommend drinking water / pedialyte / gatorade every night before sleeping.
• Meet your neighbors! The best part about camping at EDC is that you’re surrounded by a ton of people who are there for the EDC experience just like you. Say hello, lend a helping hand, share some beer, etc. Meeting your neighbors can also be very helpful if you forgot something.
• Locks for your tent are essential. Not just for securing your items, but also when sleeping to prevent drunk strangers from accidentally stumbling into your tent.
• Don’t walk barefoot on the astroturf – it gets extremely hot and can burn. It gets really hot because just astroturf laid over a parking lot, not actual grass.
• Do NOT unplug the power strip or air conditioner in your tent. Don’t plug high voltage items into the power strip either. This can overload your grid and take down all the tents near you.
• Always wear sun screen – nothing worse than having a terrible sunburn and rubbing shoulders in a tightly packed crowd.
• Bring some warm clothing – the weather in May is not always consistent. Some years it will be really hot, some years it can get really cold, especially at night. Bring something warm just in case!
• Cell service can be spotty. There are areas with free wi-f- like the Carnival Square.

Are there ins and outs at EDC camping?

Yes, you can leave the festival back to the camp and return to the festival as much as you want.

How much does EDC camping cost?

The cheapest option is 1099 plus taxes and fees (about $380) for a total of $1480 for up to 4 guests or $370 per person. The more expensive option is $1399 + 413 in fees for just over 1800 total for up to 2 guests or $900 per person.

Can I buy a single day camping pass?

No, only 4 night camping passes are available.

Are EDC camping passes transferrable?

If you have the camping decal and laminate in hand, you can proceed to the entrance. If you need to pick up someone else’s passes from will call, you will need to bring the original order number and a photocopy of the credit card and ID of the original purchaser.

Which nights are included for EDC camping?

Thursday, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday nights.

Are we allowed to sleep in cars or vans?

No this isn’t allowed because it gets hot and could result in overheating.

Can I grill or cook in the campground?

You can bring small portable propane stoves for grilling. Tanks of up to 4 lbs per group are allowed. Butane stoves are not allowed.

Are there showers in the campground?

Yes there are free showers and toilets.

Can I purchase more than one parking pass for my campsite?

Yes additional parking passes are available for $95 plus taxes and fees.

Can I drive my car to my campsite to unload my stuff?

No, cars are not permitted in the campground. All the tents are already set up. There will be some wheeled wagons to help transport your stuff but you may have to wait as they will be in high demand.

My group is arriving at different times/days. Can we all get in?

 Yes, anyone can check in as long as they have a photocopy of the ID and the order confirmation page. Also, if you are the laminate holder and you can’t get in before your crew does (according to an official Insomniac response on this sub), your crew can go to the Box Office and get a replacement and check-in without you if they have the ID/Order/Confirmation number.

If I arrive after check-in has ended, can I still get my camping wristband?

No – you have to arrive during check in hours (12 PM – 2 AM thurs, 9 AM – 2 PM Fri/Sat). Wristbands are not available at Will Call or at the Box Office. You will have to wait until check in opens the next day.

How long does the vehicle search take?

 Cars are not searched (as of 2019) and are just sent to a parking lot. The search for car-based campers takes place on foot at a check-in booth on the west side of CampEDC.

RV’s/trailers take about 40-60 minutes from the point of getting in line to being cleared by security to park. This is a huge improvement over the 4-8 hours it took in 2018.

How thorough is the RV vehicle search?

The RV search is pretty rigorous. They open all your luggage, coolers, bags and purses. They also open all cabinets, drawers, compartments, external storage areas, drain pipes and exhaust. Any items they deem ‘iffy’ (glass cups, certain BBQ utensils) will be held in a special trailer for you to pick up when you leave at the end of EDC.

Does CampEDC have its own entrance to EDC itself?

Yes, there is a dedicated entrance to the festival that only campers can use.

Do campers still have to go through security to get into EDC itself?

Yes all campers will still need to go through security every time you go into the festival. Keep in mind there are items that you can bring to the campground that you can’t bring into the festival. You will also be searched when you return from the festival back into the campground.

What if I need to go to my car to get/put something?

You can go back and forth to your car, but you can’t drive your car off the campground.

How far away is the parking lot from my tent?

The parking lot is not that close to the campground. Having a rolling luggage or a caddy helps a lot.

Are the showers open 24/7?

Yes. Showers are open 24/7. They are sometimes closed for cleaning, but there will always be at least one shower trailer open.

Are the pools open 24/7?

Yes. At least one pool is open 24/7.

Can I get back to the strip from Camp EDC?

Yes. You can take Uber/Lyft to the strip and back. You can’t drive your car – if you leave you won’t be let back into the parking lot.

How big are the tents? Can I fit air mattresses inside them?

The tents are 12 ft x 12 ft. You can definitely fit a queen size air mattress inside, but fitting more than 3 singles would be tight.

How are the noise levels at Camp EDC when I’m trying to sleep?

It really depends how far your tent is from the pool / stage. The closer you are, the louder it’s going to be. The after party goes from 5 AM to 10 AM, and pool parties go from 1 PM – 6 PM. In between, there is auto-DJ music. There’s basically a party going around the clock so we highly recommend bringing earplugs.

When do the pool parties at Camp EDC start and end?

The pool parties run from 1 PM to 6 PM on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.

How late do the afterparties at Camp EDC go?

The afterparties go from 5 AM to 10 AM on Saturday, Sunday, and Monday morning.

When do we have to leave Camp EDC?

Monday at 3 PM is the official check out time. Most people leave in the morning to catch flights.
