Nightlife iconoclast Simon Hammerstein has come to Los Angeles to act as the first artistic director of a new club in West Hollywood called DBA.

The club is located in the former Voyeur space and will be as much a performance space and art gallery as it will be a dance club and drinking den. For the project, Hammerstein collaborated with the club’s owners, Beau Laughlin and Michael Jay of the L.A.-based hospitality group Cardiff Giant, which also operates the Hudson and the Churchill, among others.

The constant evolution of the club is why it’s called DBA, which is short for “Doing Business As.” Like a seasonal theater or an art gallery, the space will change radically every few months or so, as will the performances. Each new incarnation of the club will be curated by someone new.

How much is cover charge at DBA?

General admission at the door starts at $20 for ladies and $20-30 for gentlemen on regular nights – expect more on holidays and special events.

How long will I have to wait at DBA?

Average wait times are around 30-40 minutes on Fridays and Saturdays, shorter on Mondays.

Spend an evening with a Brain, an Athlete, a Princess, a Criminal and a Basketcase at For The Record: Dear John Hughes. This unique 360-degree post-modern cabaret brings six classic 1980’s teen films to life through their original soundtracks. “Twist and Shout” with Ferris, “Try A Little Tenderness” with Ducky and let Jake Ryan light your “Sixteen Candles.” No leg warmers required.

Dear John Hughes features a ‘Brat Pack’ for the modern age curated from LA’s unique talent landscape, composed of movie and TV stars, Broadway alums and indie recording artists. This cast of characters perform a mash-up of 80’s new wave sounds from Sixteen Candles, The Breakfast Club, Weird Science, Pretty In Pink, Some Kind Of Wonderful and Ferris Bueller’s Day Off.

Saturdays are open format, with a mix of hip hop and top 40.

What is the dress code at DBA?

Upscale casual – collared shirt / jeans / dress shoes for guys. Avoid anything that can be considered sportswear (track jackets, jerseys, sneakers, hats, etc). If you are getting bottle service you will have some more leeway.

Is there parking near DBA?

Valet parking is $10. There is street parking if you get there early enough. Otherwise there are other parking lots in the area if you are willing to walk a bit.
