Minneapolis Super Bowl 2018 Party Guide

The NFL season comes to a close this week with its championship game, Super Bowl 52 (or LII, when in Rome), which this year will depart from the norm of warm-weather locales to take place in a jewel of a stadium on the frozen tundra of Minneapolis, Minnesota.  This year’s contest pits the favorite New England Patriots – seeking back-to-back rings and their sixth title in franchise history – against the underdog Philadelphia Eagles, who are in the hunt for their franchise’s first-ever title.  The plucky Eagles earned their spot in big dance by beating the heavily favored Minnesota Vikings, who if they had beaten the Eagles would have been the first NFL team to play the Super Bowl in their own home stadium. (As ol’ Donnie Trump would say, SAD!)

Unlike the hometown Vikes, Discotech has indeed found its way to the Super Bowl Weekend bash in Minny.  To celebrate this week’s well-timed in-app launch of Minneapolis / St. Paul – our twenty-seventh metro market – we give you our top picks.  Not for the football game – who knows who will win??? – but rather the picks for the best Super Bowl postgame parties/events around the Twin Cities – sure to be star-studded and celebrity-filled – for visitors and locals to celebrate the Big Game:

Big Game Weekend Kickoff Party f/ Cardi B @ Privé

One of the best things about the past NFL season was the decision to allow players to perform choreographed big play / scoring play celebration dances.  This made the football games much more fun for NFL fans and resulted in hundreds of hilarious, exuberant, joyful, and memorable moments like this.    Funny enough, in addition to being the year of the touchdown dance, 2017 was also the year of “I don’t gotta dance… I make money moves!”  This catchy-as-hell hook has been arguably the most repeated hip-hop lyric since the NFL season started, and it belonged to Grammy nominee and current hip-hop “It” girl Cardi B.   It’s no surprise that Ms. B – the most talked about female hip-hop artist since Nicki Minaj – is splashed all over the 2018 Super Bowl scene, headlining no less than five big weekend events.  Her march from the locker room to the 50-yard line for kickoff starts Thursday night at Privé, a hip-hop nightclub brand imported from New York, Miami, and Atlanta to capitalize upon the growing upscale urban scene in Minneapolis / St. Paul.

Time: 10:00 PM – 4:00 AM

Venue: Privé (315 N 1st Ave, Minneapolis, MN 55401)

Travis Scott @ Myth

Travis Scott’s music had already taken him to quite a few places, even before he was famous enough to be recognized in any of them.  He has lived on the east and west coasts of the U.S., as well as the “third coast” of his native Houston, Texas.  However, in 2017 he really came into his own, gaining worldwide acclaim after being promoted by one of his earliest fans, superstar Kanye West.  Fresh off the announcement of the moving of his Las Vegas residency from Hakkasan Group over to Tao Group, Travis now ascends to an even bigger stage than Sin City as the feature headliner for Super Bowl Weekend festivities.  PJAM Productions, Twin City Live, ECL Events & Notoriety invite fans to experience a wild night with Travis Scott, DJ Spade, DJ Reach, and other special guests at a locally revered Minnesota institution that has been newly renovated in time for the Super Bowl party crowds.

Time: 10:00 PM – 4:00 AM

Venue: Myth (3090 Southlawn Dr, Minneapolis, MN 55109)

TAO Minneapolis Big Game Weekend Takeover Day Three f/ Afrojack, G-Eazy, & Nick Cannon @ The Exchange

The third day of the pre-Super Bowl festivities figures to be the most hectic and highest in-demand, as nearly all fans and revelers will have made it into town and are willing to brave the inclement winter temperatures to find the best parties.  Tao Group is saving their best for this signature night, with big performances by Afrojack, G-Eazy, and Nick Cannon across three separate venues at The Exchange MPLS complex.  G-Eazy will do a separate concert at the Lumber Exchange hall and then afterward join Afrojack at the Pourhouse; jack-of-all-trades Nick Cannon will be at the Exchange / Alibi Lounge venue on MC/singing/rapping/comedy/entertaining duties with support by legendary NYC DJ Mix Master Mike.

Time: 10:00 PM – 4:00 AM

Venue: The Exchange (10 S 5th St #11, Minneapolis, MN 55402)

DJ Khaled @ Aqua

As its name suggests, Aqua’s sleek seating, translucent second level balcony railings, and surreal blue-hued lighting combine to create the illusion of partying in an aquarium (getting tanked in a tank, get it?).  A popular bachelor/bachelorette party destination for the upscale twentysomething locals in the Land of 10,000 Lakes, Aqua offers a host of amenities to make any celebratory occasion an evening to remember.  As such, it’s an ideal venue for one of the world’s biggest hip-hop moguls to throw an epic party on one of the world’s biggest sports weekends.  Khaled’s stage show at last year’s Coachella – aka the Super Bowl of music festivals – was a wild one full of energy and A-list cameos. We’re expecting his stage show at the actual Super Bowl – aka the Coachella of sports – to be even better.

Time: 10:00 PM – 4:00 AM

Venue: Aqua (400 N 1st Ave, Minneapolis, MN 55401)

Big Game Watch Party w/ Floyd Mayweather, 2Chainz, Lil Wayne, & Fabolous @ Privé

There’s only one athlete that knows more than Patriots quarterback Tom Brady about winning championships and defending titles: boxing legend Floyd Mayweather.  Money May defeated MMA mega-superstar Conor McGregor and retired last September with a perfect 50-0 record, and in his post-career days he’s launched a Vegas strip club and become a fixture on the hip-hop circuit as a party host for high-end events with black America’s A-List actors, musicians, and athletes.  Rubbing elbows and talking pigskin with the ever-talkative Mayweather and his TMT crew should be enough of a draw in itself, but with three legendary rappers also providing the postgame fireworks entertainment late into the chilly Minnesota morning, this event will surely be one of the toughest weekend party tickets to score anywhere on the frozen tundra.

Time: 10:00 PM – 4:00 AM

Venue: Privé (315 N 1st Ave, Minneapolis, MN 55401)

Super LIV on Sunday @ The Pourhouse

Dave Grutman and crew’s infamous hip-hop playground – where fresh NBA champs go instead of Disney World, rap beefs get hashed out, and Lil Wayne and Drake show up on random weekends without advance notice – imports its own resident DJ Stevie J from sunny South Beach to the frozen north.  After the big game, expect to see quite few Eagles and Patriots players – and players from other NFL teams – in here either drowning their sorrows or celebrating the pinnacle of their careers, making this the big party weekend’s dessert with cherry on top.

Time: 10:00 PM – 4:00 AM

Venue: The Pourhouse (10 S 5th St #11, Minneapolis, MN 55402)
