Today, we’re heading off to Denver. The lovely city which we recently covered has once again grabbed our attention with their friendly people and gorgeous scenery. In our last Denver article, we covered some of the top places to go see EDM and venues frequented by your favorite DJs. Milk

Milk is a true underground club in the lower portion of the historical Jonas Bros. Furs building. Temple Denver

What many have called “the Future of Denver’s nightlife,” Temple Denver is a must stop for those looking to rage. This hotspot has been attracting big names and fun crowds long enough to establish itself as one of the premier go-to spots in Denver.

Of course Temple is for the people, but Temple prides itself on being a venue created for artists. Local and internationally reknowned names rarely find a location that can compliment their style the way Temple does. Dorchester Social

Dorchester Social is one of the new Hip Hop hotspots in Denver at the moment. As a patron exclaims “The place is PACKED, and the music is good and the drinks are priced great.”

Dorchester Soail also has an upstairs portion that is indoor/outdoor. The club is 4:20 friendly, so you can smoke weed in the upstairs portion if you like. But be warned, it will get hella hazy up there, so steer clear if you can’t handle it. Also, the club is in reasonable walking distance to most of the downtown hotels and restaurants so just walk it out and save the money you had stashed for an Uber. Dorchester Social is a highly reviewed bar that tends to play Hip Hop more then anything else.

The Church

The Church is an old church that was bought and converted into an iconic Denver nightclub. Completed in 1889, this former place of worship is now home to dance worshippers and gets pumping Friday through Sunday. This place is one of our favorites. I mean, how many venues let you tell the story where you can reserve bottle service and table in a church? Not many we know of.

The high-beamed Gothic architecture & stained glass windows are accompanied by new state of the art lighting design and the top-rated Void Acoustics Incubus Sound system. First, know that not every one of these venues will always have free guest list for an event. Depending on who’s performing, there may not be a guest list for that night, even if there has been free Guest List 10 nights before.

Second, not every guest list that’s offered will be free. Even if a Guest List was free Friday, it may not be Satruday. More often then not, depending on who’s performing, the Guest List is subject to change.

The Grand

Inspired by the Vegas experience, San Francisco’s The Grand is attempting to bring Sin City to the Bay. It starts when you get there, the massive multi-story, columned facade, lit up with spotlights and long lines. On entering you’ll see the white-leather padded bar, flanked by seating, and leading into the dark, wood-floored main room, with a good-sized dance floor headed by the DJ booth.

VIP/bottle service areas dot the downstairs, with plenty of seating and tables. The upstairs mezzanine area features more VIP sections, its own bar and its own restrooms. The bathrooms at The Grand are known as some of the best and cleanest in club land. The décor is modern and sleek, lots of gold accents, black, crimson and mahogany. The Grand tries to set itself apart from the crowd on production value.

From the Funktion One sound system and the elaborate lighting rig, to the bubble and confetti machines, foam, lightsticks, and balloons, to the acrobatic performances and a 30,000 LED light ball in the center of the room, and you definitely get the atmosphere.

Not the sort of place that draws on big-name talent to bring the crowds, most nights you’ll find established locals and smaller national names, with the occasional big event to keep things interesting (think Dirty Vegas, or “The World’s Sexiest DJ” & Playboy Magazine’s 50th Anniversary Playmate Colleen Shannon), usually playing a mix heavy on house, with bits of Top 40 and hip hop. The crowd is mid- to early-twenties, and the rule is dress to impress. The lines are usually pretty long, so check out upcoming events at The Grand to discover what’s happening that night. We also recommend you arrive early or get a section to guarantee you won’t be standing outside all night.

Halcyon

On Friday and Saturday nights, Halcyon will be a dance club, with electronic DJs and semi-live performances. But in the vein of nearby Public Works, Milano also plans to host weekly entertainment events like a Wednesday-night cabaret, complete with live dance performances, booths with bottle service and 56 cabaret tables. She’s also considering hosting dance classes on certain nights, including different types of line dancing in the evening and yoga-dance classes that will keep the space active during the day.

And of course, Halcyon will be available for corporate and private events as well. To accommodate all of these different uses, the layout and the lighting are being designed to allow the space to easily transform from one offering to another. With brick walls and a steel support structure, it’s a “very tough, raw, industrial-looking space,” so Milano and her team are working to give it a “nice shiny veneer,” she said.

LED lights are being added to the support beams, and she’s installing a “state-of-the-art” projection mapping system. “I’m single-handedly keeping LED producers in China at work right now,” Milano joked, describing the look of the finished space as “a tough bitch in designer clothing.” Choosing a name that symbolized her wide-ranging offerings wasn’t easy, but Halcyon has many relevant meanings, Milano said.

It’s “a cool word” that’s used to refer to blissful, carefree memories or a golden era, as well as the name of a popular dance record store in Brooklyn, where visiting DJs in the ’80s and ’90s would commonly stop in before shows. It’s also the name of two different birds: one from Greek mythology, and the other, Halcyonidae, a family of the African Kingfisher. The latter bird will grace one wall of the venue, in the form of an abstract mural. With all this and more, a free Guest List is definitely worth checking out. Holy Cow

Temple

San Francisco’s popular Temple Nightclub underwent a complete redesign, reopening in October 2014. The 20,000-square-foot nightclub, located in SoMa, now features a 50,000 addressable LED immersive lighting sculpture and a Void Air Motion sound system. The venue comprises three different rooms: The main room holds 750 guests for receptions and includes bottle service tables as well as two full bars with one mezzanine-level bar. It also has a 16- by 12-foot stage, a DJ booth, and a 4- by 20-foot LED for visual projection.

Another space, called LVL 55, holds 350 for receptions and offers a full bar and enclosed DJ booth. The Infinity Lounge holds as many as 150 guests for receptions and includes a full bar, customizable DJ booth, and energy-generating dance floor. Expect electronic music (house, progressive house, deep house, etc) upstairs and hip hop downstairs on most nights. Temple

A venue for artists, by artists, Temple Nightclub offers a nightlife experience that is unrivaled in the Mile High region. The sound system at Temple Denver has been designed to provide the ultimate listening experience. Through decades of constant refinement and testing, Funktion One has achieved a level of fidelity across the frequency spectrum that was previously unheard of at night club sound pressure levels. The low frequencies provided by the newest Funktion One F221 woofers and BR132A subwoofers are configured in a non-conventional manner. The BR132 is perhaps one of the only true, high output subwoofers in the world.

The Church

You might be wondering, is this real? Yes it is. Will God judge me for raging in a former house of worship? I can’t answer that, but what I can tell you is raging is an understatement. This place throws down. Imagine a festival. Now imagine putting a three-story church on top of that festival. There you go. Welcome to The Church.

The venue features stained-glass windows, high-beamed gothic architecture and hundreds of candles spread throughout the Church suggest a pious vibe in the past house of worship, but the congregation is as mixed as they come. Built-in 1865, the roomy, multi-level Lincoln Street mainstay draws globally based DJs, local residents, retro lovers, even the under-21 set: Sections of the bar are open to those 18 and up. A rooftop patio affords one of the city’s best views. Confessional booths, although maybe more needed then ever, have been replaced with bottle service tables, available to anyone looking to party hard. Club Vinyl

Club Vinyl is a beast of a space that occupies four distinct floors in an old industrial setting. From the basement to the rooftop (open and comfortable every day, despite Colorado’s weather), there’s a different vibe going on on each floor. The basement’s dark with glowing bottle service tables lining the sides of the room coupled with a distinct underground feeling. The main floor above it is similar but with much more production; a Funktion One sound system, a space to chill in the back of the room, and two designated bottle service booths.

There is lots of seating outside, including fire pits, heaters for when it’s cool out, and misters for when it’s warm. You can also rent out hookahs on the rooftop. The inside features even more bottle service tables and a second Funktion One sound system. Off of the main floor is a patio for smoking. The second floor splits into two halves—one half is called the Glass Lounge, which is primarily used as a private events space, and the other half has bottle service booths, pool tables and a dancefloor where you can usually find circles of people breakdancing to Top 40 music.

The rooftop is partially enclosed on one half, partially exposed to the elements on the other half. Up and coming EDM DJs are always found throwing down new underground music not yet ruined by popularity. This venue is an EDM junkie’s dream, so make sure to check out upcoming events at Club Vinyl to catch your favorite DJs!

Bar Standard

Once the home of Serengeti and Shelter, Bar Standard is an Art Deco-themed, modern-day speakeasy. While the name and look may have changed, the club, housed in the former Jonas Bros. Furs building, still brings in some of the area’s best DJs — who spin house and dance music — as well as more high-profile national DJs. In addition, Bar Standard occasionally brings in live acts like the Cool Kids to perform on stage. The main area of the upscale club fills up quickly on the weekends, but there are two patios, both of which offer gorgeous views of Denver’s skyline, to escape the masses. This is definietly one of the coolest spots in Denver. Few clubs that I know of offer both a rooftop bar as well as an inside dance hall. This is definitely a place worth checking out.

The Black Box

Last but not least, Black Box. This venue is a refuge from the everyday, a home for experimentation and heart felt emotion. Their mission is simple, to move people through sound. They host a wide range of genres, allowing patrons from all walks to experience the power of music on a proper sound system. The dual room venue is fully equipped with the powerful, state-of-the-art Basscouch Sound consisting of a Tannoy, Funktion-One, and Othorn combination. A haven for artists, audiophiles, and partygoers alike, The Black Box is headquarters for Colorado’s underground music community.

The club itself is intimate with dark lights, and lots of lazers. Needless to say this is a totally different experience from big venues where you catch what some might call “radio DJs”. Instead, The Black Box aims to give EDM goers a more intmitate experience with music thats up and coming.

Honorable Mention: Red Rocks Amphitheater

Now, I know exactly what you are probably thinking right now. This is not a club, so why is it on the top EDM clubs in Denver? The Red Rock Amphitheater is not a club. However, this venue deserves a shoutout as it has recently been attracting some of the biggest names in EDM and I felt it was only fair to let my EDM bretheran know where to find that next epic party.

Big Wild & Whethan, Above and Beyond, Rezz, RÜFÜS DU SOL, Snails b2b Kill the Noise, Illenium, Troyboi and deadMau5 are among the many who are coming or have come to Red Rocks to preform. And there will be others. Althought not a club, Red Rocks Amphitheater has brought some of the biggest names in electronic dance music to Denver, and so I felt it necessary to throw in the mix.

Red Rocks Amphitheatre for those who don’t know is a beautfiul open-air amphitheatre built into a rock structure near Morrison, Colorado and is located 10 miles west of Denver.

Temple Nightclub Denver Opening this Fall

San Francisco is home to one of the coolest nightclubs in the country: Temple. From the outside, it’s a rather unassuming place, but step inside and you’re transported to another dimension. The room gets its vibe from thousands of spherical lights protruding from the array of columns on the floor as well as the ceiling, making you feel like you’re in an actual space ship.

Now, Temple Nightclub will be arriving in Denver as part of the Zen Compound. The new compound will go live this fall in the old City Hall Event Venue at 1136 N. Broadway Street in Denver’s Capitol Hill and Golden Triangle Creative district. The nightclub will create a whole new nightlife experience, offering a 21 and over, fully immersive awe-inspiring lighting & visual experience, paired with world-class talent.

The new 20,000-square foot, three-story Zen Compound will open in stages with Temple Nightclub as the first concept to go live this fall. All three remaining concepts are expected to be up and running by the 2018 New Year.

“We see Denver as a sister city to San Francisco in many ways,” said San Francisco artist/DJ/entrepreneur Paul Hemming of his company’s expansion plan. “The Mile-High City is a major metropolitan hub and has an eclectic confluence of technology, music, art, entertainment and nightlife. It’s an exploding market with refined tastes, an entrepreneurial spirit and drive. Denver has a highly affluent market with appreciation for creativity and attention to detail.”

In Denver, construction is already underway and will bring 100 new jobs to residents; 80 of those positions are to be slotted for the nightclub. Hemming will lead design and oversee the architectural team and initial buildout, which calls for an aesthetic of “futuristic escapism” and theatrical elements while preserving key elements of the original structure. He’s also sole proprietor with a remarkable 20-year lease of the building.

Temple in SF brings hundreds of high quality DJs a year to its stage and we can expect the same from the upcoming Denver iteration.

“We found the perfect space and were able to assemble a great team and it all came together,” said Hemming.

So, stay tuned for more information about this new nightclub as it nears opening day and get excited, Colorado! This is going to be something special.

Temple SF the Only Bay Area Club on Top 100 List

San Francisco is known for many things but nightlife is definitely not one of them. Nightclub & Bar magazine released their annual Top 100 list of the highest-grossing American nightclubs yesterday, and only one Bay Area club made the cut: Temple Nightclub, which clocked in at a respectable #24, with estimated annual revenues of $10-15 million. As usual, Vegas and Miami dominated the list, with nine of the top ten slots, but SF doesn’t even hold a candle to San Diego (which has 7 entrants on the list), Dallas (7), Boston (4), or Scottsdale, Arizona (3).

But while SF may lack clubbing cred, Temple appears to have only benefited from its recent renovation, which added a cafe, recording studio, and co-working space to the mix. The refreshed club now features an improved sound system, not to mention some sweet LED lighting powered by patrons’ dance moves. One additional player that could probably do well in SF’s club game if they felt like it: Hakkasan, which has no clubbing component at its SF restaurant location, but manages to bring in over $100 million in Vegas, making it #2 overall on the top 100 list.
